Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen has revealed the shocking abuse he has received since Monday night's clash with Liverpool man Darwin Nunez.

The Danish defender was headbutted by Liverpool's new signing, resulting in Nunez being sent off.

Some Liverpool fans and pundits thought that Andersen's reaction was unnecessarily over-the-top, but the widespread consensus was that it was an idiotic move from Darwin, worthy of a red card.

Palace and Liverpool would go on to play out a 1-1 draw at Anfield, an impressive result for the Londoners. It has been sadly overshadowed by the shocking abuse received by Joachim Andersen in the aftermath of the game, and he shared a selection of it on his social media - including some horrifying death threats.

Andersen was crucial in Palace claiming a 1-1 draw, but his provocation of Nunez and subsequent reaction to the headbutt had some Liverpool fans unhappy.

Some fans, however, took a completely unacceptable stance in their reactions, reaching out directly to Andersen and sharing some horrifying abuse with the Danish defender.

Got maybe 3-400 of these messages last night. I understand you support a team but have some respect and stop act tough online.

Hope @instagram and the @premierleague do something about this.

He shared 17 examples of the abuse he had suffered, including several death threats and some which implicated his family.

This incident has certainly drawn a cloud over week two of the Premier League, at a time when Andersen should be celebrating a terrific performance and hard-earned point away to one of the best teams in Europe.
