Ahead of their game against England next week, Wales' World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread.
A victory in the game against Iran earlier today would have put them in a strong position ahead of that one, but a loss instead has them on the brink of going out. They will have to beat their British rivals on Tuesday evening to stay in the competition, something that looks highly unlikely based on current form.
It is not a position that they would have foreseen themselves being in prior to the tournament, with many of their players confident of doing well in Qatar. It hasn't really turned out that way up to this point.
Jim White calls out English arrogance on talkSPORT
Of course, England had little trouble beating Iran last earlier this week, winning 6-2 in their tournament opener.
Considering the rivalry between themselves and Wales, that has resulted in a few provocative comments from some quarters.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Simon Jordan was quick to throw a dig at the Welsh after their players had previously celebrated England's Euro 2016 loss to Iceland.
😏 “The Welsh had a singsong when we lost to Iceland, so what goes around…”
👋 “Wales came to the World Cup to make an impression and they made one, a bad one! See you at home!”

The Welsh sat there and had a little singsong when we were knocked out by Iceland, so what goes around comes around...
Wales came to this tournament to make an impression and they did, but it was a bad one. See you at home.
His cohost Gabby Agbonlahor was equally jovial about their issues, bringing up the comments Welsh players had made about England in the buildup to the tournament.
😡 “How can you have some of the Wales players saying they don’t fear England before the World Cup?"
🔥 “Now the Welsh have got their medicine, England will give them a good beating and they will be out!”

Players shouldn't talk like that before a tournament, you concentrate on playing. Now they've got their medicine. England will give them a beating and they'll be out.
However, Jim White was not impressed with what he was hearing from the pair.
He would call out their 'English arrogance' for kicking the Welsh while they were down.
😡 “Anyone listening who isn’t English thinks ‘I’m listening to English arrogance’”
😤 “To have a swipe at the Welsh at a time like this is unfair and inappropriate, they gave it everything!”

White: Anyone who is listening to this and isn't English is thinking 'yeah, I'm listening to a bit of English arrogance this afternoon'. I've got to tell you. To be having a swipe at the Welsh at a time like this is unfair and inappropriate.
Jordan: Why is it unfair?
White: They've given it everything and they were down to ten men.
It should be an interesting clash between the two nation next week, although Wales will certainly need to up their performances levels by quite a bit if they are to have any chance of getting the three points that are required.
