Jim McGuinness can go all the way to the top of soccer management according to one of his former players. Speaking to the media yesterday, Donegal star Karl Lacey said that his former manager had the ability to succeed at the top of the game if that's what he wants to do.
McGuinness has been on the coaching staff at Celtic for the past couple of years and has also lent his motivational abilities to teams such as Saracens and the European Ryder Cup team. Lacey is certain that that ability could easily development into a managerial role.
Jim will go to the top if he really wanted to. He’s obviously thinking about management or coaching in the soccer club as he’s doing his badges through the FAI.
He’s a big sporting personality in Ireland. He’s got the CV, he’s had the success.
It could be said that being a sporting personality in Ireland doesn't necessarily transfer to success elsewhere. However, the fact that McGuinness has been so widely praised at Celtic as well as at Saracens rugby club, would lead you to suggest that Lacey may not be completely off the mark.
As stated, McGuinness has taken the first steps towards soccer management, and although he's still some way from gaining his UEFA Pro Licence, it would not come as a surprise if he were to move his career forward in the next couple of years.
