Jason McAteer's autobiography 'Blood, Sweat and McAteer: A Footballer's Story' was released on Thursday.
As usually happens, extracts from the book have been published in the media.
The Irish Sun have been one of the media outlets to publish parts of McAteer's book. A revelation that he had suicidal thoughts following retirement from football made the front page of Thursday's paper.

Given the hostile history between Liverpool and The Sun, many supporters of the club wished to know if McAteer had sanctioned the use of extracts from his book.
Jason McAteer statement on The Sun
On Twitter ex-Liverpool player said that the had turned down a request from The Sun for an interview.

He also added published a statement adding that use of the extracts was something he could do nothing about.
I would just like to clarify that I have not or have ever done an interview with The S*n, English or Irish. They've taken extracts from my book which unfortunately I can not do anything about. I firmly live by the rule, Don't buy the S*n.
Thanks Jason
Earlier this year, McAteer described The Sun as 'twats' for giving away free newspapers at Manchester airport on the morning that findings from the Hillsborough Inquest were announced.
