The last time we saw Jason McAteer taking part in the indigenous code, he got involved in a well-publicised scrap with taciturn Dublin netminder and reluctant public speaker Stephen Cluxton. Let's just say that it's never advisable to get too shirty with an inter-county star, charity game or not.

This time round, gah-ficionados will be unimpressed by Trigger's skippy soloing technique and front-on, goalkeeper-style kicking action. In fairness, though, it would've been right over the blackspot if there was one. We'll say nothing about his sliotar-lifting ability.

Perhaps the one-time Spice Boy wasn't just there to plug Danish lager. Maybe he's a historically-aware, hard-line Irish republican who knows that Liverpool FC were founded by prominent Orangeman John Houlding, and was getting his own back for the temporary lifting of Rule 42 by slotting one over in front of the Kop - named after the famous 'spy-hill' of the Boer War?

Ah, perhaps not.
