Spending the weekend with Richard Keys and Andy Gray in Doha, Jason McAteer may think twice before agreeing to appear on beIN Sports again.
Left bemused as Keys suggested Roy Keane wasn't actually a "great player" yesterday evening, today's discussion about where Manchester United may look for a new manager had the former Irish international equally grasping for words.
With Keys and Gray seemingly in agreement that Jose Mourinho's spell in charge is coming to an end, the former Scottish international Gray previously tipped Belgium's Roberto Martinez to replace the Portuguese.
Wishing to flavour the uncertainty with some outlandish thoughts of his own, Keys vouched for an equally unlikely appointment - much to McAteer's surprise.
Keys: Arsene Wenger for some reason hasn't had a mention, but he's available and might just be a short-term fix.
McAteer: To what? Short-term to what?
Leading the discussion toward the long-term replacement, the former Sky Sports broadcaster threw up another lesser-heard suggestion.
Keys: [To Gray] You said Roberto Martinez the other week...
McAteer: No chance.
Keys: I wasn't looking for a view on that.
Gray: [To McAteer] I wasn't looking for your view either...
McAteer: It just came out, that wasn't meant to just come out...
Keys: I'll give you another one I don't think anyone has considered, Laurent Blanc?
[Long pause]
McAteer: Why?...
You can watch the pretty bizarre exchange below.
"That got as much response as my Roberto Martinez!"
