McAteer is fighting the good fight.
With such an outpouring of love as the one we have seen following Robbie Keane's international retirement, there are bound to be a few wind-up merchants who fancy having a pop at the former Spurs and Inter Milan striker.
But Jayo isn't having it.
After paying his own tribute, a few of McAteer's followers took exception with his referring to Keane as world class, but the man himself replied to them in order to set them straight.
First up was McAteer's tribute to Keane, complete with a photo from Niigata and the 2002 World Cup:
ROI have only had a few world class players Robbie Keane was one of them absolute pleasure to call you a team mate pic.twitter.com/NfFwGtNk34

But that 'world class' tag didn't sit well with some:
@MCATEER4 your at the wind up here surely?? Very good player and great career but WORLD CLASS.....behave.

Willie the difference between me knowing and you knowing is I played with him I'm pretty sure you didn't https://t.co/du2KRT9L75

And then up popped an issue with Ireland's opponents down the years, despite that being the worst argument ever.
@williec2811 Ireland against crap teams.v over rated by media.baffling that mcateer gets paid for a deluded opinion
— Niall Purcell (@purcelln421) August 24, 2016
Oh yeah sorry we only play against crap teams !!!!! Germany Holland seriously Niall I think your the deluded one https://t.co/Jju96LR3tl

And then came the PSA, a warning to the "nuggets" of the Twitterverse that had intentions to belittle Keanoe's career:
To all the nuggets out there Robbie Keane is 5th all time European goal scorer at international level enough said

Well said Jason.
It speaks volumes about how Robbie was on the training pitch that those who played with him are rushing to let their followers know how much they appreciated Keano.
David Beckham's in particular warmed our hearts.
