A number of talented young Irish players have already been on the move this summer.
Gavin Bazunu's transfer to Southampton has been the most eye-catching of those, although it is certainly not the only one. Festy Ebosele and Cathal Heffernan have made moves to big Italian clubs, while Nathan Collins is also expected to be involved in a big money deal to the Premier League.
However, all had been relatively quiet on the Jason Knight front.
It has been expected that the midfielder will leave Derby County this summer after their relegation to League One. Despite this, links to other clubs had hardly been dominating the headlines.
One possible deal has now emerged.
Jason Knight linked with Burnley move
Football Insider are reporting that Burnley are set to make an offer for Jason Knight, with new manager Vincent Kompany keen to add the Irishman to his rejuvenated squad.
After their relegation from the Premier League, The Clarets have already lost a number of key squad members. As mentioned above, Nathan Collins is expected to follow them out the door in this window.
Kompany has compensated for that by signing a number of high potential young players. That includes former St Pat's defender Luke McNally, who recently made the move from Oxford United.
That would make Knight an ideal fit. He is an incredibly talented midfielder, one who should slot in perfectly under a manager who employed an attractive style of play in his previous role at Anderlecht.
While many Ireland fans may be hesitant about another one of our top young talents moving to Burnley considering how Robbie Brady and Jeff Hendrick saw their careers stagnate at Turf Moor, this will be a very different team. They need only look at the way Josh Cullen improved under Kompany in Belgium to get an idea of the impact he could have on Jason Knight.
It would be an interesting move.
