The Football Writer's Association this morning named Jamie Vardy as their footballer of the year with the Leicester striker joining his co-tormentor in chief Riyad Mahrez in picking up one of the big individual accolades in English football.
Mahrez was last week named the PFA Player of the year and, on the day that they may yet become Premier League champions, Vardy has now been selected as the pick of the bunch for football writers after a season that has turned football on its head.
Incredibly, no less than seven Leicester players recieved votes this year. Alongside Vardy who received 36% of votes, Mahrez, Kante, Morgan, Drinkwater, Schmeichel and perhaps mostly bizarrely, Danny Simpson were the full Leicester contingent while Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Dimitri Payet, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne were the only other players to be receive votes in what is a fairly damning indictment of the season that the likes of Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have had.
And while it must be said that we'd defend to the death the right to throw in a left-field choice in an open vote like this, we would have to say that whomever suggested Danny Simpson was the best player in the Premier League this season may need to have their membership of the Football Writer's Association re-assessed.
