Jamie Vardy was shown a red card 65 minutes into Leicester's 2-0 win against Wolves on Saturday. The England striker was punished for a reckless challenge on Irish fullback Matt Doherty.

The 26-year-old Doherty called his day a "mixed bag". The opening goal of the game was credited to his name. Though, it was an own goal - a header which flew into the top corner. He also missed a good chance along with being involved in a Vardy red card.

"I’m fine, I’ve just got some stud marks," Doherty told the Leicester Mercury after the game.

My leg wasn’t planted which was beneficial to me. I’m fine.

I think if my leg was planted it would have been worse but a split-second before, I could see it coming, so I kind of rolled with it. He still caught me but I’m okay.

The Dubliner revealed that Vardy called into the Wolves dressing room following the game to check if all was OK with his opponent.

"To be fair he knocked and looked in and asked if everything was alright. I said it was fine so there were no hard feelings. He said his apologies, so I’m fine with that."
