Gary Neville has left Sky Sports with immediate effect. A couple of years ago it would have been unimaginable to think that such a situation would be seen as a genuine loss to British football, but that's exactly what's happening. Never has the departure of a pundit been taken with such seriousness.
Sky are the big losers in all this. The duo of Neville and Carragher have turned a Monday night game between Bournemouth and Stoke into compelling viewing and that's going to be a massive loss. Many may say that's going overboard but Sky will certainly be feeling the pressure to replace him over the next few months.
The only thing to do in a situation like this, is to make light of it of course. The back and forth between Carragher and Neville has become the undoubted highlight of the Premier League coverage and this was no time to forget that.
Gutted! This reminds me of when Pegguy Arphexad left for Coventry.

You have to imagine he started thinking of that one as soon as he heard the news. Pegguy Arphexad only made five league appearances for Coventry after leaving Liverpool in 2003 so Neville will probably be hoping that his break-up with Carragher will be slightly more impressive.
