One day before the biggest game of the season so far, Man United look set to announce something that would have been impossible to imagine a couple of weeks ago. Not only is David De Gea set to return to Louis Van Gaal's starting XI to face Liverpool tomorrow but it seems he may be about to sign a new contract as we speak.
De Gea's agent, Jorge Mendes, is in Carrington training ground this morning with the final touches being put to a new contract which would see the Spanish stopper earn somewhere in the region of £200,000 a week.
All that is completely at odds with what everyone expected a couple of weeks ago. When De Gea's move to Real Madrid fell through at the last minute, it looked like United were the ones who were missing out. £20 million out of pocket and an unhappy player to fill the void. It was far from ideal and unsurprisingly a lot of people were loving the chaos.
I'm happy DDG is staying his head won't be right, he'll go for free next summer & Man Utd haven't got 20 mil to panic with today.

Fast forward eleven days and things have changed significantly. De Gea has been welcomed back into the fold and with a new contract about to be signed, Man United fans are rather pleased ahead of the clash with Liverpool on Saturday.
Jamie Carragher in particular has been getting the brunt of that positive feeling around Old Trafford this morning with a lot of fans turning to those comments he made on September 1st.
It seems more than likely that De Gea will have a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for a reasonable sum of money. However, even if that is the case, he certainly won't be leaving for free next summer and we'll more than likely see whether his head his right at Old Trafford tomorrow. £200,000 a week can go some way to making an unhappy player happy again and Carragher's beloved Liverpool could come out on the wrong end of that.
