Manchester United have faced a lot of criticism in recent times, and most of it absolutely deserved as the club will finish in 6th place and outside of the top four for the second season in a row.
However, Jose Mourinho's first season at Old Trafford could yet still be seen as a success, as by winning the Europa League final on May 24th they would secure qualification for the Champions League while winning two cups in the process.
It's crazy to think that failure or success for a club's season, especially one the size of Man Utd, could come down to one game, but that is the strange situation Mourinho finds himself in after an odd season with highs, lows, excuses, spats with players, and injuries all thrown into the mix.
One of the main criticisms of Manchester United since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 is that the club has lost that winning mentality that saw them dispatch of smaller clubs at home and always find themselves in the top three, but Jamie Carragher doesn't quite agree with that.
The Liverpool legend was analysing Chelsea's ability to maintain success over the past decade, when he expressed his belief that United's ability to still win trophies despite all of their struggles in the past few seasons, shows they still know how to win when not playing particularly well.
That's what I'm talking about, this winning mentality, I don't think every club has got it.
I think Manchester United have still got it now. We criticise what's happened since Ferguson left, they're still picking up trophies.
Won one last year, won one this year, still in another final. They still find a way to win.
It's clear where Carragher falls on the debate that many pundits have been weighing-in on lately, top four and Champions League qualification? Or Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League? Some don't feel the competition is worth celebrating for a traditionally big club, while others value trophies over all else.
The analysis that Carragher conducted on Chelsea's recent success was excellent, as he explained how the ruthlessness of Roman Abramovich instilled a mentality where failure would not be tolerated throughout the whole club.
Carragher's views on Man Utd are interesting, but they are unlikely to be universally agreed with. The sheer fact that they are in sixth place in the league, and mainly due to an inability to win against bottom-half opposition at home, suggests that finding a way to win is exactly what Mourinho's problem has been, but the trophies do speak for themselves to a certain degree.
