We are all well aware with the phenomena at this stage. Whenever an Irish person experiences success in their chosen field, they are inevitably claimed to be British at some point.
It happens with actors, musicians, and sportspeople with startling regularity on various platforms. We have grown used to it at this stage, but it doesn't become any less annoying.
We were provided with another example in recent days.

Jamie Carragher names Liam Brady as English footballing export
English people claiming Irish footballers as one of their own is a pretty occurrence. With the majority of our players playing their club football in the country, some seem to blue the lines between Irish and British players.
We need only look at the furore around Evan Ferguson's international future as a recent example, with the player repeatedly being asked if he would opt to play for England despite being born and raised in Ireland.
It seems even our great players of the past are not exempt from this treatment.
On the most recent episode of Stick to Football, a conversation was had about the most successful English players that went overseas to play their club football. All the usual suspects got a mention, with the likes of Gary Lineker, David Beckham, and David Platt all raised as answers.
However, the player that stood out from an Irish point of view was one Liam Brady, who was given a mention by Roy Keane after his successes in Italy in the 1980s. The Cork man explicitly mentioned that Brady was Irish, but Jamie Carragher was quick to lump him on the list of English players.
Carragher would also include John Charles on the list, who is one Wales' finest ever footballers.

Numerous people asked Carragher to explain the Liam Brady inclusion on social media, although he has yet to respond.
Oddly enough, Graeme Souness also recently included both Brady and John Charles on his list when asked a similar question a few months ago.
Never not at it.
