Following his dismissal from Valencia, we have been eagerly awaiting the return of Gary Neville to Monday Night Football. While some people argue that Neville's relative failure at Valencia will affect the credibility of his punditry, we think that as soon as Neville gets back into the analyst's chair, his talent for television will mean his Valencia woes are quickly forgotten.
Ahead of tonight's Monday Night Football between Spurs and Stoke, Jamie Carragher released a teasing tweet regarding who would be alongside him and Ed Chamberlain in the studio:
MNF is back tonight! A man who had a spell in Spain & came back earlier than expected will join us tonight!!
— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) April 18, 2016
Plenty assumed this heralded the return of Gary Neville:
@Carra23 Gary Neville?

YES! GARY IS BACK!! https://t.co/hgH2FGWseT

The words 'most people' here are instructive, as many people found a few others who fit the description:
@Carra23 Julien Faubert?

@Carra23 Johnny woodgate 🙃😂

@Carra23 Thomas Gravesen?

@Carra23 David Moyes?

@Carra23 Aspas?

@Carra23 Sir Francis Drake?

As a further indictment of Jermain Pennant's career, he was not mentioned in responses that began with Michael Owen and ended in Sir Francis Drake. Carragher then clarified it would not be Neville:
Sorry, no he's not. The man on tonight came back with some trophies! https://t.co/fZulSVovLq
— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) April 18, 2016
Trophies, then exclude most people mentioned above and assuming the circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition is not considered a trophy, we can also cross Sir Francis Drake off that list. Who could it be? Perhaps it is former Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clement, or possibly even Rafa Benitez.
Sadly, it won't be Neville.It would have been a tad harsh for him to face the country the day after Valencia beat Barcelona 2-1, given that Neville lost 7-0 in charge of Valencia against Barca a couple of months ago.
