Not for the first time James McClean has tweeted and then deleted. The Derry man is currently on international duty with Ireland as they prepare to play Poland on Tuesday and was named man of the match for his performance against Latvia on Friday evening.
In response to a tweet about an article in the Belfast Telegraph, McClean tweeted:
belfast telegraph is nothing but a bitter sectarian paper you expect anything less by now.
In another tweet he also called journalists from the paper, "bigots".
Given that Martin O'Neill was rumoured to have requested that McClean shut down his Twitter account when both were employed by Sunderland and that the FAI were suggested to be considering implementing a Twitter code of conduct for players while on international duty, this will all surely come to a head at some point soon.
According to the Daily Mail, there may be some 'previous' between McClean and the Belfast Telegraph as they say he was called a "turncoat" by them in an article from August 2011.
