Trap's post-Reek briefing yesterday provided the clearest signal yet that James McClean will be on the plane to Poland.
It wasn't this slippery quote - that McClean has a "90 to 99 per cent chance" of going to Poland - that caught my eye. It was Trap's revelations on squad structure, as documented by Ciarán Ó Raghallaigh- “I will go with three goalkeepers, seven defenders, five strikers, four central midfielders and four wingers.”
There's simply no other winger to legitimately challenge McClean here. John O'Brien in the Sindo has some of Trap's strange quotes on the rise of McClean. At this stage, the far more interesting issue is how Trap will pare down his central midfielders - with Fahey, Gibson, McCarthy and Green competing for two places. Your guess is as good as mine with that one. Fahey's goal was huge in Yerevan, McCarthy's form is the best of the quartet, though Gibson might be enjoying the most consistent spell in his career. Green is Green. All shall be revealed in a week.
