West Brom have revealed that James McClean has failed to turn up for preseason training as speculation mounts that the 29-year-old will be sold.
A statement on West Brom's official website reads as follows:
James McClean has failed to report without permission and will now face internal disciplinary proceedings.
The Ireland international has been heavily linked to Championship side Stoke City, with the Potters having had a £4 million bid rejected last month and it is thought that Gary Rowett's side will return with an improved bid for the Derry winger.
Rowett previously tried to sign McClean in January, according to current Ireland manager Martin O'Neill:
When he was at Derby, he tried to buy him in January. For one reason or another, it didn’t materialise. James would feel that this is a chance with a manager who will give him that opportunity to play more matches. So I’m sure he’s in favour of that.
McClean signed for West Brom from Wigan Athletic three years ago for £1.5 million, and made 111 appearances for the Baggies during his three seasons at the club, scoring five goals.
