A sensational goal-line clearance from James McClean denied his Ireland team-mate Chiedozie Ogbene a stunning goal in Wigan’s 2-0 win over Rotherham.

Both players have started the championship season well, with Ogbene scoring four goals in the Championship so far in Rotherham’s return to England's second-tier.

The 25-year-old has been a breath of fresh air for Ireland, with his pace and finishing helping his club to promotion, while a stunner in the EFL trophy final helped them capture silverware.

Another player who has been impressed this season is James McClean who has began somewhat of a resurgence for club and country. His form was criticised at both club level, with some calling for him to lose his place in the Irish team.

It was another Ireland international in Will Keane who put Wigan ahead with his fourth goal of the season.

As Rotherham searched for an equaliser, Ogbene skipped past the Wigan defence and almost had an outstanding solo goal, only for James McClean to sprint back and head the ball clear off the line.

Irish fans would have mixed emotions watching this game, as Ogbene looked certain to score a brilliant equaliser, but his Ireland’s team mate McClean was determined to keep him out.
