"That’s always been the dream," James McClean told Celtic TV about the prospect that he might one day play for the club.
Over the weekend, McClean played for the second time ever in an Ireland jersey at Celtic Park as Martin O'Neill's side drew 2-2 with Celtic in Scott Brown's testimonial game.
"Unfortunately that’s not up to me," continued the Derry regarding the possibility that he could pull on a Celtic jersey one day.
If it was up to me it would have happened a long time ago.
Who knows? Fingers crossed. Maybe one day.
McClean received some warm applause from Celtic supporters during the game - it was a moment the 29-year-old enjoyed.
"I want to thank them for that. It’s always nice to get a reception like that.
"You want to put in a performance and play up to it but I just want to thank them for making me feel so welcome today.
"Being a huge Celtic fan, coming here today on the occasion that it was, it was an honour and I was delighted to be on the pitch playing."
