Everton claimed a massive win against Arsenal in the live Tuesday night Premier League game on BT Sport, and although Seamus Coleman bagged a crucial equaliser, it was another Irishman who was the talk of twitter for his overall performance in the game.

James McCarthy has had a vert difficult season, as his well-publicised struggles with Ronald Koeman, which stemmed from his desire to play for Ireland despite lack of match fitness, appeared to be leading him to a move away from the club.

His performance against Arsenal would have reminded Koeman of what he can offer, and he was widely praised for his work in the engine-room of Everton's side. He was also the reason behind the big scuffle between both sides at half-time after he tangled with Mesut Ozil.

He was taken off in the 85th minute, and recieved a standing ovation from the fans at Goodison Park. Everton fans on social media were also quick to praise his performance, even if they don't really like him as some admitted.

If the Everton fans were loving him, then Arsenal fans were hating him just as much:

A true sign of a big performance.

That was much more like it from McCarthy, and his performance will no doubt have pleased Roy Keane who was watching from the stands.
