James McCarthy made his return to Everton's first team, almost 11 months after suffering a horrific leg-break.
The SportPesa Cup final was played at Goodison Park last night, a significant fixture given it was the first occasion an East African club played against a Premier League side in England.
McCarthy suffered a double fracture against West Brom last January. However, his return to action take a crucial step forward last night. Having played for the U23s last week, he came on just after the hour-mark last night and received a huge reception from the home fans.
McCarthy immediately threw himself into the action, playing just in front of the back four. His ball-playing skills looked sharp and he pressed hard.
It was a major positive for Everton, while Yerry Mina also played a part. Marco Silva has publicly stated his fondness for McCarthy and recently stated he will be a big addition once fully fit.
