As he seeks minutes on the pitch following his return from injury, James McCarthy may leave Everton on loan this month.

The Daily Mail reports that West Ham are interested in signing the Ireland international on loan.

McCarthy has returned to training with the Everton first team after suffering a double leg fracture against West Brom on January 20th.

The 28-year-old played 45 minutes for the Everton U23s in October and also lined out in a game against Kenyan side Gor Mahia in November.

"I know games will give him a better condition," said Everton manager Marco Silva a fortnight ago.

But we are playing tough, tough matches and it is not easy to give him what everybody knows will help him get better, which is minutes in those games. But he is a worker and I really like him.

Seeing a West Ham midfield pairing of McCarthy and Declan Rice would be interesting for Mick McCarthy should Rice commit to Ireland as reports have suggested he will.

It is also said that James McCarthy is a target for Fulham and West Brom.
