After his breakthrough season at Lyon, Jake O'Brien has a big decision to make on his future this summer.

The Cork native starred for the French club throughout the campaign. Having come into the side in October, he would help the club go from relegation candidates to the European spots as they secured Europa League football for next season. He would also contribute in their run to the French Cup final, scoring in a 2-1 loss to PSG.

O'Brien's form in recent months has drawn the interest of quite a few clubs, with various teams across Europe being linked with his services over the last few months. The likes of Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have been credited with an interest in his services, as have a number of Premier League clubs.

Having paid just £850,000 for his services last summer, it seems that Lyon are willing to move him on for a massive profit this off-season.

Jake O'Brien could become most expensive Irish player ever

Ferveur Lyonnaise are reporting that Lyon have set an asking price of €35million (£29.5million) if they are to sell Jake O'Brien this summer.

That would represent a profit of around £28.5million on the transfer fee they paid to bring him to the club less than 12 months ago. It has been suggested that Everton have already bid around £17million for the centre back, an offer that is likely to be rejected.

The Toffees are said to be keen to bring O'Brien to Merseyside, with Nottingham Forest and West Ham also closely monitoring his situation. With so many interested clubs in the frame, Lyon could well get close to their full asking price for the player.

A fee of near £30million would make Jake O'Brien the most expensive Irish player of all-time, with the current record set by Nathan Collins when he moved to Brentford for £23.5million last summer.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops over the coming weeks.
