Aston Villa and Ireland U21 player Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to Chelsea in The Daily Star. According to the paper Villa are currently attempting to get the 18-year-old to sign a new contract and "long-term admirers" Chelsea are "lurking". I don't like the idea of anything owned by Roman Abramovich "lurking".
Grealish's contract is up this summer and the midlands club have apparently offered him £5,000 a week, a deal which Chelsea could easily match and more. On the surface it would seem like a crazy move for him to join Chelsea's superstar squad where he is unlikely get first team football, something which he certainly will get at Aston Villa. He came on against Hull recently and had skelps kicked out of him so obviously that they even picked up on it on Match of the Day 2. Of course he could join Chelsea and then become one of their merry band of loanees, 26 in total right now according to The Daily Mail.
The midfielder has still to decide of who he will play for at senior international level. He is eligible for both Ireland and England. Roy Keane was asked last week if he could influence Grealish into putting on the green jersey for Martin O'Neill's side.
It depends what mood I’m in. I can threaten him.
Scary.
Have a word about him staying at Villa too, Roy.
