The expectation this month was that Jack Byrne would again leave Man City on loan.
However, late last night, a little over an hour following the closing of the transfer window, Wigan announced that they had signed the Ireland U21 international on a permanent deal.

The Dubliner has signed for the Championship side on a three-and-a-half year deal.
Manager Warren Joyce said Byrne was signed with a long-term outlook.
Jack is one for the long-term, a really hungry player who we feel can develop here over the next few seasons, a real talent.
Byrne recently returned to Man City following a disappointing spell on loan at Blackburn. After a successful time with Dutch Eredivise team Cambuur last season, it had been hoped that Byrne would kick on in the Championship with Blackburn. However, he made just seven appearances in all for Owen Coyle's side.
Wigan currently sit third from bottom of the Championship, three points from safety.
