On Sunday, Jack Byrne turns 20. As he looks back over the 2015/16 season on his birthday, he will undoubtedly be positive.
The Dubliner has spent the season on loan at Dutch Eredivisie side Cambuur from Man City.
In 24 games for the club, he has three goals and three assists along with a number of tremendous performances. As Cambuur lost 1-0 to Ajax last weekend, Byrne was hailed as the best player on the pitch. His form also led to fleeting speculation that he could be a bolter for Martin O'Neill's Euro 2016 squad. The tournament will likely come a little bit too soon for Byrne.
Cambuur are almost certainly going to be relegated from the top tier of Dutch football meaning a return for Byrne to the club next season is unlikely.
Given his progress this season and the quality he has shown, interest in the midfielder is going to be high. He knows what he wants too - another season in the Eredivisie.
He told AD:
The stadiums are full and how the teams play football appeals to me.
I have to wait and see what Manchester City want because I have a two-year contract there. Netherlands is a good school for me. I can develop further here.
