One of the new names in the Martin O'Neill's provisional squad for the games against Wales and Iceland this month was Liam Kelly.
The diminutive midfielder has been a regular in the Reading team which currently sits sixth in the Championship table.
Speaking to the Reading YouTube channel, manager Jaap Stam, the former Manchester United centre-back, said it was a great moment for the young player.
Stam also said that Kelly is a player who should remain in Martin O'Neill's plans, 'a player with the qualities that he has, every team can use that.'
I think it's a great moment for Liam Kelly. I think he deserves it as well. He's a very good player. What he's shown with us this season, in the games that he's played, is that he's very impressive.
People always talk about his size, 'Is that going to be a problem?' If you look at him and you look at the top sides in Europe and the world, a lot of players have the size that he has. He's got quality on the ball. He uses his physique very well, even against big players.
