The Telegraph's Sam Wallace is reporting this afternoon that Chelsea are mightily unimpressed with John Terry's decision to make his contract impasse with the club, saying that the club are 'baffled' by the decision.
Terry confirmed after yesterday's FA Cup win against MK Dons that he has not been offered a contract renewal by the club and as a result will leave the club at the end of the season.
Wallace reports that the club, however, are bemused by Terry's decision to go public on the contract talks. Chelsea's stance is that all appointments and contract renewals will be ratified by a new manager, so Terry's future would be decided by whomever succeeds Guus Hiddink at the end of this season. Wallace reports that Terry was told that he should wait for the new manager to be appointed, and "was told that the issue was by no means decided and that he should wait to see how it developed".
Whilst Terry acknowledged that things may change when a new manager is appointed, he was adamant that there would be no "fairy-tale ending" for him at Chelsea.
Terry went public knowing the passionate feeling it would incite in the Chelsea supporters, perhaps in a bid to force the club into action.
A public conflict between Terry and Chelsea can be read as an unseemly climax to a glorious career or an entirely fitting way for Terry to go, depending on your point of view.
Should he ultimately leave, Terry has said that he would move abroad, and would never face Chelsea in the Premier League. His comments haven't stopped one manager from trying, however...
