UPDATE 21:40 September 13th: Some interesting quotes from Martin O'Neill that would suggest it was the real James McClean who posted those Facebook comments.
"He has even admitted himself he has been rather foolish. He has taken himself off Twitter, apparently then he might have a situation with Facebook as well and about 14 other accounts that he has.
Pure Derry, formally a satirical newspaper in Derry, now a Facebook page posted this to their page yesterday jokingly purporting to be James McClean wanting clear up rumours that he was buying the Bogside Inn, a pub in Derry.
Two hours later an account under the name James McClean began commenting on the Pure Derry Facebook page post.
"James McClean" was unhappy that a post had been made in his name.
Pure Derry then responded to the "James McClean's" complaints.
It then escalated into a war of words between "James McClean" and other commenters on the post.
"James McClean" then stopped commenting and apparently deactivated his Facebook account. Pure Derry doubted that it was the real James McClean.
Pure Derry then posted saying that "James McClean" had asked for a public apology and for the thread to be deleted.
Two hours after that Pure Derry posted again saying that they had it confirmed that it was the real James McClean who had posted the comments.
You can view the whole thread on the Pure Derry Facebook page.
The "James McClean" account has been activated again. You can view it here. The account is 'friends' with what appear to be the accounts of Seamus Coleman, Shane Duffy, David Meyler and Eamon Zayed along with several people with the surname McClean.
Was this the real James McClean?
