The Republic of Ireland women's team have an international friendly against Slovakia in Tallaght next Monday night, but is there a possibility that the team won't be there?

Last night, we were informed by SIPTU that the press conference has been called for this morning.

Members of the Republic of Ireland women’s national football team and their representatives in the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland (PFAI) will outline the deeply held concerns of the players about the conditions under which they are expected to perform.

These problems have previously been outlined on several occasions to the Football Association of Ireland by the PFAI on behalf of the members of the women’s national football team without any effective action being taken.

The issue is believed to be surrounding the compensation the players receive when on international duty. A couple of years ago, goalkeeper Emma Byrne publicly complained that a €30 per day allowance had been rescinded and that the FAI weren't compensating the lost earnings for players turning up to play for Ireland.

This has been an ongoing issue now between the FAI and the players for some time, but given the extraordinary decision to go public with this at a press conference this morning.

It's unknown at this stage if strike action is being considered but with SIPTU and the PFAI being the ones calling the press conference and even with the press conference being held in Liberty Hall, it's definitely a possibility.
