English Media Irish Player Ratings From The Weekend's Games

It was not a good weekend for the Irish contingent plying their trade in England, with a number of players putting in poor performances.

Seamus Coleman continued his poor run of form, while Darren Randolph's form has also seemingly dipped. Callum O'Dowda was the standout player, scoring a cracking goal in Bristol City's 2-2 draw with Norwich.

Irish Player Ratings

Robbie Brady started for Burnley in their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham, with the Lancashire Telegraph rating him at a poor 5/10. Jeff Hendrick was introduced as a substitute in injury time.

Seamus Coleman continued his recent poor run of form, getting the runaround from Leroy Sane in Everton's 3-1 defeat at Manchester City. The Liverpool Echo gave him a 5/10 for his performance, noting that it was unsurprising to see him substituted early in the second half.

Wolves won yet again at weekend, defeating Bournemouth on a 2-0 scoreline. Matt Doherty played the full 90 minutes, and the Express & Star rated him at 7/10.

Ciaran Clark started in a three man defence for Newcastle in their 2-0 win over Huddersfield, with the The Chronicle giving him an 8/10 for his 'fantastic effort at the heart of defence.'

Harry Arter played the full 90 minutes for Cardiff in their 3-2 loss to Watford, and Wales Online felt his efforts were deserving of a 6/10.

Shane Long was introduced off the bench in Southampton's 3-2 win over Arsenal, making a huge impact. He registered an assist for the winning goal, and inews rated him at an impressive 8/10.

Richie Towell started in the centre of midfield for Rotherham in their 1-1 draw with Reading, playing the full game.

Blackburn were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Birmingham City, with Darragh Lenihan playing at centre back. The Lancashire Telegraph rated him at 6/10, mentioning his capabilities in coping well with high balls into the box.

Conor Hourihane was only given a 5/10 for his part in Aston Villa's 2-2 draw with Stoke by the Birmingham MailJames McClean started that game for Stoke, acting as provider for the equalising goal. The Stoke Sentinel gave him a 7/10, saying this about his performance:

Played a part in both goals and his energy alone justified his recall to the left-hand side.

Alan Browne scored yet another goal for Preston in their 3-2 win over Millwall, with the Lancashire Evening Post giving him a 7/10. Aiden O'Brien started out wide in that game for Millwall, and Football.London  gave him a paltry 5/10 for his efforts.

A clean sheet alluded Darren Randolph once again in Middlesbrough's 2-1 loss at QPR, and the Teeside Gazette rating him at a poor 5/10.

Callum O'Dowda ended his 13 month goal drought by scoring an absolute belter in Bristol City's 2-2 draw at home to Norwich.

The Bristol Post gave him a 9/10, and gushed about his display:

Fantastic match: smacked in a great second goal for the Robins but he was everywhere, carrying the ball well, gliding past defenders and throwing in plenty of dangerous crosses. The most chances created, said Opta after the game.

Finally, Ronan Curtis started Portsmouth's 1-1 draw with Barnsley, with the Portsmouth News giving him an 8/10.
