In Tallaght last night, Stephen Kenny and his team won a landmark game for Irish football.
They are now just two games away from the group stages of the Champions League. Given the quality of opposition they could face it the next round, that is a realistically achievable goal.
Congratulations poured in for Dundalk last night, and it was not just from within Irish football.
Several Irish internationals have noted their delight at Dundalk's victory. Most notably was James McClean.
On Instagram, the Derryman got a little dig in at Giovanni Trapattoni and his line 'In Ireland there is not league' while also applauding Kenny - who he worked with at Derry City - and the Dundalk players.
Some result! Some achievement for @dundalkfc_ and the league ( which we dont have ? ) as a whole, delighted for stephen aswell great manager and man... Hopefully more of the same from cork tomorrow night.
Other Irish internationals, including legends such as Paul McGrath and Kevin Kilbane also offered their praise.
