Of course he was going to score, it was never in doubt, even when it hit the post and you momentarily thought it was going to bounce away from the goal.

One group of Irish fans, at a fan park Lyon - just like everyone in the stadium and glued to their TVs around the world - got lost in the moment. That was despite being surrounded by French fans, no doubt in shock at having conceded a penalty so early in the game.

As Brady stepped up to take the penalty, boos rang out. They would be silenced by Brady's strike and the exuberance of that small group of Irish fans.
