Irish defender Kevin O'Connor has signed a loan deal to join Crewe Alexandra.

The former Cork City left back will join the League Two club from now until January 7th, having been largely out for favour at Preston since he arrived in England back in June 2017.

O'Connor signed a three year deal with Preston before then manager Simon Grayson left the club shortly after, being replaced by Alex Neil. After struggling for game time under Neil in his first few months with the Lilywhites, O'Connor spent a period on loan with Fleetwood Town in League One last season, where his form was halted by injury.

The Wexford man will be dropping down to the fourth tier in order to push for more first team action and work his way into a starting berth for Crewe with the club currently in 18th place having won one of their opening five league games.

They take on Macclesfield Town this weekend where the 23-year-old Irishman will be available to make his debut.
