5 Moments Of RTÉ Pundit Gold From Ireland's Depressing 2003 Win Over Georgia

Ireland are playing Georgia tonight in a World Cup Qualifier, and if you're sick of the sight of them, then it's understandable as this will be the fourth year in a row that we have played the country that gave us Kakha Kaladze.

We've never lost to Georgia, and in fact we've beaten them all seven times that we have played them since 2003, but they have always been a tricky tie in a competitive match, with the first meeting in 2003 coming at a particularly bleak time for Irish football.

It shouldn't have been, as the incredible memories of the 2002 World Cup were still fresh in the mind, but there we were playing Gary Doherty up front and hoping that hoofing the ball in his general direction would do the job. Luckily, it did, and we scraped a 2-1 win, but every Irish fan left Lansdowne Road that day wondering how it had come to this so quickly after a tournament that will never be forgotten.

Eamon Dunphy and Denis Irwin joined Bill O'Herlihy in the RTÉ studio, and thanks to the magnificent killianM2 we were able to look back on the half-time analysis from that game and pick out some gems that will overwhelm you with nostalgia.

Dunphy on Gary Doherty: "Fair play to him. He's a good honest lad. His feet are better than his head, if he had 3 heads instead of feet..."

We can only imagine the end of that sentence was "He'd be worth £20m". That was a lot of money back then.

Denis Irwin with a wonderful sweeping statement on Italian defending.

Having played against the best of the best, he would know, but the then Wolves man took a lovely dig at Italian defending there.

A reminder that Rangers players used to always get booed at Lansdowne.

Shota Averladze was on the receiving end this time. While you don't hear that stuff anymore, it's mainly because very few international footballers play for Rangers now.

Billo on Colin Healy's performance: "They'll be dancing in the streets of Ballincollig."

We miss you Bill. 45 minutes of decent midfield play against Georgia was almost certainly not enough to have people take to the streets, but O'Herlihy just wanted to ensure the Corkman got some love.

Eamon Dunphy hoping the score stays the same so he can take some money off Paddy Power.

Classic Dunphy.

Bonus clip: Who remembers this Lucozade Sport ad with Michael Owen?

Irish adverts were absolutely awful in 2003, but how did they get away with claiming that it was a fact that a sports drink makes you go 33% longer!? Ridiculous.

As always, a big thanks to killianM2 for having the single best YouTube channel in existance, if you wish to drink in all 15 minutes of half-time analysis you can watch the full clip below:

Ireland vs Georgia 2003 was a bleak moment, but you could always count on the RTÉ panel to deliver.
