Out of all the players currently playing in the Republic of Ireland youth sides, the one who has the potential to make the most immediate impact at senior level might well be Bosun Lawal.

The 21-year old has long been viewed as a tantalising prospect, with his physical gifts and technical abilities making him capable of playing as both a holding midfielder or centre back at first team level. He would excel in both of those positions on loan at Fleetwood Town last season, starting out the campaign as a defender before being slowly moved up the pitch as the year went on.

He returned to parent club Celtic this summer, and considering his form last season, you may well have expected to be drafted into their squad for the 2024/25 season.

However, it seems he could move on amid interest from elsewhere.

Ireland U21 Star Could Leave Celtic Amid EPL & European Interest

Football Insider are reporting that Bosun Lawal could leave Celtic on a temporary or permanent basis this summer, with a number of clubs interested in the Irishman.

Premier League side Bournemouth are said to be keen on his signature, as are Championship club Stoke City. Interestingly, it is said that Austria's RB Salzburg will provide competition for his signature. They have a strong track record of developing young talent and are regulars in the Champions League group stages.

It is believed that Celtic would listen to bids for Lawal over the coming weeks, although it would likely take a decent fee to prise him from Glasgow.

A mainstay in the Ireland U21 side, he is sure to be targeting a call-up to the senior side next season. Ireland could certainly do with another holding midfielder in the squad, with that being a position where the team has struggled over the last number of seasons. However, he will need regular playing time at a good level to earn that recognition.

At this point, a permanent move away from Celtic may well suit all parties.
