Here's The Ireland Team We Want To See Against Luxembourg

Even though Ireland's trip to Serbia in midweek ended in defeat, it is fair to say that there were some positives to take from the game.

Firstly we scored a goal, two of them in fact. That is no small task at the moment. The switch to a 3-5-2 system also worked well, while Ireland's style of play seemed to take another small step forward.

They will need to capitalise on that in tomorrow's game against Luxembourg, where anything short of a victory will be unacceptable.

Sticking with the new system, here's the team we would select for the game in Dublin.

GK: Gavin Bazunu

There is no need to pile on with the Mark Travers criticism here, but it is fair to say that the Bournemouth man did not have his best game in Serbia. He could have done better for a couple of the goals, with the 21-year old looking a bit rusty having only featured on a handful of occasions this season.

No Irish goalkeeper has played more than Gavin Bazunu and this could be the ideal game to hand him his international debut.

He has the potential to be a big player for Ireland in the coming years and the Luxembourg game is one you feel he can thrive in. It may also be no bad thing to take Travers out of the firing line.

CB: Seamus Coleman

It was some performance from Seamus Coleman in midweek. He was excellent at the back, putting in a number of last-ditch to stop Serbia getting in behind.

He should continue in this role as one of the back three moving forward and could also get up the pitch a little bit more against Luxembourg.

CB: Dara O'Shea

Dara O'Shea continues to grow into the shirt at this level, putting in another good display on Wednesday despite a couple of nervy moments.

He is the perfect fit in a Stephen Kenny system, being comfortable enough on the ball to step into midfield while also being sold at the back. The 21-year old will play a big part in this campaign.

CB: Ciaran Clark

It wasn't Clark's best night against the Serbs, but we would stick with him in this game for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Ireland should dominate the ball in this game, with the Newcastle man better in possession that Shane Duffy.

He is also a natural fit on the left of the back three, bringing more balance as a left-footed player.

RWB: Matt Doherty

If there is one player that should thrive in this system change, it is Matt Doherty. He didn't have quite the impact we would have hoped for the other night, but there were some flashes of what could be to come.

You would expect him to get more joy in forward areas tomorrow, even if Luxembourg do set up to defend.

LWB: Enda Stevens

Enda Stevens is in a similar position to Doherty in that he should thrive in his natural position. He certainly had an impact on the attack in Belgrade, playing a part in Ireland's opening goal.

Here's hoping for more of the same tomorrow.

CM: Josh Cullen

Josh Cullen was arguably Ireland's best player on his first competitive start in midweek and looks to have nailed down a place in the midfield moving forward.

He is everything you would want in a holding midfielder: strong in the tackle, mobile enough to get around the pitch, and doesn't shirk responsibility when it comes to getting on the ball and playing.

CM: Jason Knight

Jayson Molumby worked tirelessly the other night, but we would like to see Jason Knight given an opportunity in this game.

Whereas Molumby hasn't played much football in recent weeks, Knight has been an ever present for Derby. He also offers a bit more attacking threat in a fixture where Ireland should create most of the chances.

It's the least he deserves for his performances this season.

AM: Alan Browne

The man to finally end Ireland's long goal drought, Alan Browne provides plenty of attacking threat in this team.

The Preston man certainly isn't shy to get forward, with his header in Serbia an example of the damage he can do in the opposition penalty area. Having scored his first competitive goal at international level, you get the feeling that a few more could be on the way.

ST: Callum Robinson

With Aaron Connolly ruled out due to injury, Robinson will have a different partner in attack tomorrow. The West Brom man constantly looked to get in behind against Serbia, while he also pressed well out of possession.

His cross for Browne's goal was an excellent one and we would hope to see him be more involved inside the 18-yard box against Luxembourg.

ST: James Collins

Collins brings a little bit of something different to an Irish front two, possessing the ability to drop deep and challenge in the air, instead of always looking to get in behind as Robinson does. The Luton Town man has performed well when given the opportunity with Ireland.

While we wouldn't throw him in from the start, a place on the bench for Troy Parrott with an eye to a 30-minute cameo would also be a boost.

The Team In Full

That makes three changes in all from the Serbia game, ones which should help Ireland in an attacking sense.

Here's hoping for a first win of the Stephen Kenny era.
