Martin O'Neill has named a 28-man squad for the friendly against Oman on August 31st and the World Cup qualifier against Serbia on September 5th.
It is an underwhelming squad, one containing no new caps. A reminder - we are playing Oman at the Aviva, surely a prime opportunity to give some fresh faces a chance to show what they can do. Jack Byrne, currently on loan from Man City to Blackburn, John Egan and Matt Doherty are just three of the younger names deserving consideration from the Ireland manager.
Robbie Keane has been included. The friendly is expected to be his final appearance for Ireland.
Shane Duffy is not included as he is suspended for the game against Serbia. Seamus Coleman, John O'Shea and Jeff Hendrick are all injury doubts.
Of course, Alex Pearce has also been named. The Derby player has two goals for Ireland in six caps, both of those came against Oman. How else would beat them?
