Ireland fans got a glimpse of the future with Callum O'Dowda's impressive cameo when he came on against Belarus. It was the winger's international debut, but the 21-year-old displayed a cool head and calmness on the ball that suggested he will not be a one-cap wonder.
After a great season that saw his Oxford team promoted to League One, there are teams circling O'Dowda hoping to bring him to an even higher level. Preston manager Simon Grayson was in Cork on Tuesday night to monitor O'Dowda with a move to bring him to Deepdale.
But O'Dowda isn't the only Irish international in demand. According to Daniel McDonnell, there are several Premier League clubs looking at Keiren Westwood for a summer move. The Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper has had a hugely impressive year that ended in disaster by losing the Championship playoff final.
Everton, West Brom, and Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough and Hull are looking at bringing Westwood back to the Premier League. The 31-year-old's last tenure in the league was an unsuccessful spell with Sunderland. It has emerged that Westwood has a £2.5 million release clause in his Sheffield Wednesday contract.
