Roma found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona last night, with two comical own goals from Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas proving the Italian club's undoing along with strikes from Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique. The Serie A side did manage to get a late consolation through Edin Dzeko, but the tie is more than likely over with the Barcelona grabbing four vital away goals.
The match was being broadcast on Iranian television and the state TV station took the bizarre step of censoring Roma's famous crest.
The clubs emblem portrays a female wolf with the two infant brothers Romulus and Remus, illustrating the myth of the founding of Rome, and the sight of the wolf's nipples proved too much for Iranian censors as this blurred image demonstrates:
The move seems like a very over the top reaction to what is an image devoid of sexual meaning. Twitter user Phil Carney was none too impressed with the decision:
Only the Iranian government could find a drawing of a wolf's teats sexual and perverse.
Typical religious nuts.... they find sex in everything, maybe they'd be a bit less weird if they embraced it as a normal activity like the rest of humanity.— Phil Carney (@philipcarney72) April 5, 2018
