While Juventus are going from strength to strength and are currently preparing for a Champions League Final showdown with Barcelona, the rest of Serie A isn't in the best of shape.

While the exciting play of Roma and the re-emergence of Lazio on the Champions League scene (which was confirmed with their 4-2 win over Napoli yesterday) are plus points, the recent failings of historically massive clubs are sad sights to those of us who loved a spot of Football Italia on a Sunday afternoon back in the '90s.

While Parma are struggling to keep their head above water financially, both AC Milan and Internazionale are going through a seemingly never ending transition period on the pitch, and both clubs having poor campaigns in the Serie A has resulted in a historic stat that neither will have wanted.

This upcoming season will be the first since European competition became a thing, that no Milan club will take part.

Dark days. It's five years since Jose Mourinho guided Inter to a sensational treble winning season, and even longer since Milan were relevant on the European stage, so you have to wonder when either club will buck the worrying trend.
