As football fans all over the world tuned in to watch Manchester City visit PSG in the Champions League quarter-final, few knew we would be in for such a crazy game.
However, just 12 seconds into the game, we got an idea as to what we could expect:
ALL TIME RECORD - David Luiz booking (12 seconds) is the quickest in the UEFA Champions League history
— MisterChip (English) (@MisterChiping) April 6, 2016
Damien Duff in the RTÉ studio described David Luiz's defending as "PlayStation stuff", but he just doesn't understand the Brazilian and his constant desire to provide moments of madness for our enjoyment.
We understand David Luiz here at Balls.ie, so here is a breakdown of just what was going through his head in those first 12 seconds.
First, watch the clip in real time:
Now, let's break it down...
Stage 1: "Keep it tight, nothing silly early on."
Good starting position, giving out orders to look like a leader. Great start so far.
Stage 2: "Stick to him, he's quick and they want to find him."
Again, this is nearly two seconds of absolute perfection in terms of defending from David Luiz, but then it all went wrong.
Stage 3: "Yep, it's on... Is that Fernando, or Fernandinho?"
He's identified the threat, surely he will stop it from happening?
Stage 4: "It's Fernando. Ah shite, I've let him go again."
He switched off for a second, three seconds into the game. And Aguero has him.
Stage 5: "Ok, there's time to fix this!"
He's managed to use his pace to get himself into a decent recovery position.
Stage 6: "Nice and easy David, he's not that good."
He's recovered, now he just needs to keep him outside the box.
Stage 7: "Ok, now I have to take him out."
Yep. He blew it.
Stage 8: "Great. Now I can't play in Manchester."
Good show David Luiz.
It's just a shame we won't get to see him in the return leg. And it's also a miracle he played a full 90 after that without getting sent off. What a showman.
