Former Sligo Rovers (and Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers) striker had a very, very busy day today despite being named on the bench as his Preston North End took on Sheffield Wednesday in what some folk in the Balls.ie offices had been referring to as the 'Aiden McGeady derby.'
But it was all about Doyle, as reports filtered through that the Dubliner had been sent off for getting in a fight with his own teammate ala Kieron Dyer/Lee Bowyer, minutes after he had scored following his introduction from the bench... Jermaine Beckford was also a sub, and the two came to blows.
This is what the BBC match report had to say:
Preston had Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle sent off after fighting with one another as North End lost at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.
Fernando Forestieri's early header put Wednesday ahead early on, but the striker was sent for a second-half off-the-ball incident with Ben Pearson.
Steven Fletcher's penalty doubled the lead before Doyle's late goal.
Doyle and Beckford came to blows after the Irishman failed to play Beckford in as North End looked for an equaliser.
Wednesday's win put them into fifth place in the Championship while Preston slip into 15th.
Because he wouldn't pass the ball? Ah here!
We're still waiting to see the footage, but from what we can see from those who were watching, it sounds absolutely mental.
Some game today for Preston's Eoin Doyle:
81 mins - comes on as substitute
82 mins - scores
90 mins - sent off for fighting with own player.— James Harkin (@eggshaped) December 3, 2016
Preston finished with nine men... for having two of their own players fighting with each other.

Eoin Doyle and Jermaine Beckford sent off for Preston for fighting with each other. Never seen anything like it.

Most mental thing I've ever seen at a game. Beckford and Doyle should be fined a hideous amount of money and made to apologise #swfc #pnefc

Wow.
Obviously we'll bring you the footage as soon as we have it, but it sounds like a spectacular incident, which makes it crazy to think that it happened because of Doyle failiing to play Beckford in.
