On Sunday night, another pleat fell in the unfolding horror of Loris Karius' career as the German goalkeeper feebly pushed a Christian Pulisic shot into the path of Borussia Dortmund's Jacob Bruun Larsen to hand Dortmund 3-1 friendly victory.
Karius' ghastly Champions League final has stayed with him during Liverpool's pre-season, and he has been directly at fault for a couple of goals in his performances since. Liverpool have since bought Alisson Becker from Roma, meaning that Karius' days as Liverpool's first-choice 'keeper are at an end.
His poor form has predictably led to an avalanche of criticism, with a couple of notable named leaping to his defence. Mo Salah tweeted his support, urging his teammate to "ignore those who hate".
Stay strong Karius, it has happened to the best of players. Ignore those who hate.@LorisKarius

Another staunch defender of Karius is Iker Casillas, who exclaimed that there are "more serious problems in the world".
Will this attack on Loris Karius ever end? I'm talking about him like so many other goalkeepers. There are many more serious problems in the world. Leave the kid alone! He's also a person. As we all are!
Casillas has gone even further, and has posted a montage of his most egregious errors online along with the caption "Behind each one of us, there is one person. Let him raise his hand who has not ever failed. Learning from our mistakes will make us stronger and accept them more human".
Watch it below.
