Nine days ago Gudni Johannesson was elected president of Iceland.
Johannesson is an academic - it would basically be the equivalent of Ireland electing someone such as Diarmuid Ferriter as president.
On Sunday evening, rather than sit in the VIP surroundings which are afforded to individuals of such status, he eschewed the privilege and instead stood in the stands with the 9,000 Icelandic fans as their side exited Euro 2016.

Earlier this week, he told CNN of his plans - he won't actually take office until August 1st.
Why would I go in the VIP room and sip Champagne when I can do that anywhere in the world?
No, I will be in the stands with the fans and I will wear my Iceland shirt.
