No matter what happened against France on Sunday night, the Icelandic team was heading home as heroes.
Just being at the tournament was viewed as an achievement. Getting out of the group and beating England - one of the most hilarious games in the history of international football - was, in GAA terms, bonus territory.
This evening Iceland's 23-man squad and their management team returned home to Reykjavik where they were given a spectacular homecoming.
Of course, the Viking thunder clap featured - which we saw after the win against England - only it's better; there's a drum involved.
