Ian Wright has slammed Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag after the Red Devils 2-1 loss to Brighton last weekend, claiming that one of his own players was laughing at the manager for his decision-making.

Man United had started the season positively with a 2-1 win over Fulham, however, their early success was short-lived as they once again fell victim to a stoppage-time winner in Saturday's clash with Brighton.

It was the Seagulls who struck first, with a 32nd-minute Danny Welbeck goal firing the home side ahead. Rejuvenated after the break, Amad Diallo had Ten Hag's side back level by the time the game hit the hour mark.

However, with just over twenty minutes left on the clock and needing another goal, Erik Ten Hag had Bruno Fernandes make way for Scott McTominay, a decision that Ian Wright slammed.

As the clock ticked past ninety, it looked like Man United and Brighton would be sharing the spoils, however, a defensive lapse from United saw Joao Pedro header home a 95th-minute winner to make it two wins from two for Brighton.

Ian Wright claims Fernandes was laughing at Ten Hag's decision-making

Speaking on his podcast The Wrighty's House PodcastIan Wright was left baffled by Ten Hag's decision to take Fernandes off when Man United needed the goal, claiming Fernandes was 'laughing' at him as he exited the pitch.

A lot of things happened in that game that I just couldn’t understand or see happening.

Like I can’t understand why he took Bruno off and went so defensive. Why are you taking him off?

When he ran off, he was actually smiling and laughing. He was like, "what the f*ck? I can’t believe this guy".

That’s the vibe I got from it. If anyone is going to win a game for you it’s Bruno Fernandes.

If there's any truth in what Wright had to say, it's a terrible indictment on the standing Ten Hag is held in by his own teammates.

While Manchester United's FA Cup win at the end of last season may have relieved some of the pressure on Ten Hag, if he cannot string together a more consistent set of performances early this season, one would have to question how tenable his position is.

Manchester United will be back in action at home to Liverpool this Sunday at 4pm, in what will be the biggest test of the new season for Ten Hag and his players.
