Iago Aspas has said that Luis Suárez’s has been treated “like a murderer” as a result of his four-month ban from all football-related activity.

In addition to the nine-match suspension from international football handed down by FIFA, Suárez’s ban from football-related activity prevented Barcelona from staging an official unveiling on his arrival at the Camp Nou from Liverpool.

For Aspas, who is on loan to Sevilla from Liverpool, this was a step too far.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, he said:

“They are treating Luis like a murderer and not like a footballer.

“I understand his nine-game international ban because of the incidents that took place in the past.

“But the rest of the sanction, which doesn’t allow Barcelona to present him to the media and fans, is too much in my opinion.”

In fairness to Aspas, some of the reaction to the incident was bordering on embarrassing - most notably this one from Danny Mills.

Suárez will not be allowed to make his Barcelona debut until his ban ends on October 26.
