Jurgen Klopp had the cut of a man who was struggling to digest what just happened when he spoke to BT Sport after the final whistle of Liverpool's Europa League final loss to Sevilla on Wednesday night.
And you couldn't blame him. At half-time he will have asked for more of the same from his players who completely dominated the opening exchanges and looked to be comfortable at 1-0 up, before a goal 17 seconds into the second half rattled them to the point of no return.
Sevilla's pounced on a startled Liverpool and lifted the trophy, and Klopp shouldered his share of the blame (although the finger has been pointed firmly in the direction of Liverpool's left-back rather than the manager) before issuing a promise to Liverpool fans that they will use this experience as a positive.
A dignified response.
And you really believe that he means it too. It's little consolation to the Liverpool fans who watched their side fall apart in Basel, but at least they have Klopp steering the ship.
